The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges for institutions of higher education, particularly in ensuring the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff. Our client needed a robust, scalable solution to manage COVID-19 cases, ensure compliance with rapidly changing public health guidelines, and maintain continuous operations. The primary challenge was to create an integrated system that could efficiently handle case management, contact tracing, and real-time communication with all stakeholders, minimizing disruptions and preventing outbreaks.

As the Product Implementation Manager at WorldBacktoWork, I spearheaded the development, implementation, and management of the Rapid Infection Response (RIR) system. This comprehensive solution was designed to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks, manage the spread of the virus, and adhere to quarantine guidelines for institutions of higher education. Initially deployed for a large university in Southern California, the RIR system was subsequently rolled out to similar verticals across the United States during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Develop a scalable, automated system for managing COVID-19 cases and preventing outbreaks.

• Integrate the system with the client’s existing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and proprietary platforms.

• Create a comprehensive communication framework, including a 24/7 call center, to address COVID-19 related inquiries and incidents.

The Rapid Infection Response (RIR) system was designed to meet these objectives through the following components:

   • A US-based call center to handle COVID-19 guidelines, FAQs, positive case reporting, close contact notifications, and general inquiries about testing and locations.

   • Developed detailed scripts and training materials for call center representatives to ensure consistent and accurate information dissemination.

   • HIPAA Compliance and Data Security:

     • Ensured all processes adhered to HIPAA standards, emphasizing the protection and confidentiality of personal health information.

     • Implemented stringent security measures as part of our "Total Safety" initiative to safeguard data integrity.

2. Case Management Software

   • Integrated with the university’s EHR and proprietary systems to identify and manage COVID-19 cases.

   • Automated workflows for real-time notifications to university staff, administration, and sanitation departments.

   • Enabled detailed contact tracing, identifying students by class schedules and contact information.

   • Automated reporting of positive cases to local government agencies as required by public health guidelines.

   • Created and implemented workflows to streamline the management of COVID-19 cases, including notifications for cleaning and disinfecting affected areas.

   • Developed SOPs and protocols for day-zero implementation, ensuring clients could seamlessly adopt the system.
